KEY HIGHLIGHTSKeto diet has become popular these daysThese low carb diet may give rise to several health issuesIt may also lead to bad breathKeto diet is one of the most common forms of diet plans people follow to lose weight within a short period of time. Though Keto diet has proved effective for many people, not all are suitable to follow this diet plan. This includes people with high blood pressure and diabetes. Though this diet plan promises quick weight loss, there are several side effects attached to it which might give rise to certain complications.
Side effects of keto diet
This happens as a result of the body adapting to the low-carb diet and people generally don’t feel good after they start the keto diet, hence the name Keto Flu. The symptoms may include headache, weakness, and irritability, to constipation, nausea, and vomiting.
Kidney and heart damage
Dehydration is one of the major issues one faces while following a keto diet. Following this low-carb diet may lead to loss of electrolytes such as sodium, magnesium, and potassium, which may effect the kidney and the heart.
People who are on keto diet might find themselves running to the bathroom often. This may happen because of the lack of fiber in the keto diet.
The weight loss that occurs because of keto diet might not be long term as most people find it difficult to stick to such restricted and strict diet plan. And if you let go of the diet, the lost pounds may again find its way back to pile up.
When one starts following keto diet, their body goes into ketosis which leads the body to start producing by-products called ketones, which includes acetone. The ketones are released from the body through exhaling and this breath apparently has a different odour than the common bad breath.
